Make A Bequest

You Can Help Empower Lives – Join the Legacy Circle Today

Just as a strong foundation is vital for building brighter futures, AID relies on thoughtful planning to continue its mission of empowering individuals with disabilities, mental health and crisis needs to achieve independence and lead meaningful lives. By planning for a legacy gift now, you can make a lasting impact for generations to come.

The Legacy Circle was created as a way to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who choose to include AID in their estate plans.

Please note that AID, like all charitable organizations, cannot provide tax or legal advice. We encourage you to consult with your financial or estate advisor to determine which type of legacy gift is the best fit for your goals.

Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive future. Join the Legacy Circle today!

Ways to Give

AID currently accepts several types of planned gifts:

Charitable Bequest

A bequest is a gift specified in your will or living trust. There are various types of bequests you can make to ensure your gift honors your legacy. You may choose to donate a specific dollar amount or property, such as stocks, to the Association for Individual Development. Alternatively, you can designate a percentage of your estate’s value. To clearly express your intention to make a bequest to the Association for Individual Development, include the following language in your will or living trust:

I bequeath _______ (dollar amount or % of estate) to the Association for Individual Development, a nonprofit organization existing under the laws of Illinois and with a principal business address of 309 New Indian Trail Court, Aurora, IL 60506-2411; and a federal tax identification number of 36-2472748.

To become a member of the AID Legacy Circle, we kindly ask that you share your estate plans with us. This allows us to ensure your wishes are honored, express our gratitude during your lifetime, and involve you in our long-term planning efforts. To document your bequest with AID, please contact Christie Plotzke, Associate Vice President of Resource Development, at 847-931-2292. Please note that documenting your bequest is not binding or irrevocable—you remain free to update your estate plans as your circumstances evolve.

Beneficiary Designation

Consider naming the Association for Individual Development as a beneficiary of your IRA, pension plan, or donor-advised fund. Retirement plans are often subject to estate taxes after death and income tax when funds are received by a beneficiary, reducing the overall value of the inheritance. By naming the Association for Individual Development as a beneficiary, you can potentially avoid both of these taxes, enabling you to leave other assets to your family that may carry a lower tax burden.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Consider naming the AID as a beneficiary of your IRA, pension plan, or donor-advised fund. Retirement plans may be subject to estate taxes after death and income tax as the funds are received by a beneficiary, diminishing the ultimate value of the inheritance. By naming the Association for Individual Development as a beneficiary, both of these taxes may be avoided, allowing you to leave your family other assets, which may incur less tax liability.
